While we’ve witnessed tremendous gains for gay, lesbian, and bisexual rights in recent years, transgender people continue to suffer the highest rates of poverty, unemployment, incarceration, and hate motivated violence in the LGBTQ community. But thanks to grassroots activism, trans issues are finally beginning to make their way from the margins into the center of the political arena.
