This talk provides an introductory overview of critical approaches to the subject of photography over the course of the 20th century, with particular attention paid to the question: How do photographs shape our experience of the world? The presentation focuses on how Marxists have dealt with this medium and its ability to harness or subvert ideological positions both in practice and theory.
