Everyone from Bernie Sanders to Donald Trump claims to represent the interests of that mercurial social category, the middle class. If we go by mainstream definitions, the middle class encapsulates everyone in between the impoverished and the 1%, a pretty broad (and useless) category. This talk will explore the question of the middle class from a Marxist perspective and sort out the contradictions, myths and realities of this much-discussed but under-analyzed social class.
