Mainstream discussion of 'working class whites' in the wake of the 2016 election presents us with a monolithic group that is either irredeemably racist or pitiably blind to its own best interests. But reality complicates this narrative, as does a socialist understanding of who working class is and why it benefits the 1% to slander working class whites.
