Since the start of the Syrian uprising six years ago, the Palestine solidarity movement has struggled with deep divides and confusion over how to take a clear stance on Syria. In the past few weeks the arguments within our movement have boiled over, forcing many to decide which side they are on. This session aims to clarify, for those of us fighting against injustice in Palestine and around the world, what stance we must take on Syria. The liberation of Palestinians and Syrians are not just linked, but inextricable, as the start of the Syrian revolution made clear. This panel will unravel the myth that Bashar and his father supported Palestinian liberation, recalling how they used Palestinian suffering as an excuse to repress their own people. We will also look into the question of who we can support now in Syria, and how we can show solidarity with what remains of the original democratic revolution.
