The protests of an estimated 17 million Egyptians who mobilized to demand the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi are unprecedented in human history. As a result, on July 3rd, Egypt's military stepped in to oust Morsi, appoint the country's top justice as interim president and announce plans for constitutional revisions and early presidential elections.

Morsi's downfall came as a culmination of the Tamarod (Rebellion) petition campaign that gathered 22 million signatures to call on Morsi to resign. Egyptian revolutionaries say the reach of the June 30 demonstrations was even greater than that of the protests that brought down Mubarak's dictatorship in February 2011, with immense turnouts in every part of the country.

The months to come will be filled with intense political conflicts—and Egypt's revolutionaries, budding independent labor movement and popular forces are facing huge dangers and possibilities in furthering the revolution. One cause for optimism is the confidence gained by millions of Egyptians in the struggle against Morsi. Join us for discussion and debate on what brought about the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood, the meaning of today's military control and the dynamics at play in the current and next wave of Egypt's revolution.
