Most history books will tell you one story about the invention of baseball in the United States. Dave Zirin will tell you another. Zirin, who says we need our own sports history has written one: A People's History of Sports. On GRITtv he talks about sports, politics, and everything in between. From the invention of baseball to the Olympic Project for Human Rights, Zirin argues that sports has long been a battleground for dissent. Perhaps the way we treat the understory in sports is not so different from the way we cover politics. On that note, Zirin, who went to school in St. Paul, says that the decision to hold the Republican National Convention there is akin to the Red Sox holding a World Series parade in New York.
